Disaster Management

Earthquakes, cyclones, droughts, floods etc. are some of the natural disasters which causes huge loss of lives and properties. The direct or indirect impacts of disasters, whether natural or man-made are extensive damage, destruction and death.

The disaster management is the field by which human beings continuously makes efforts to reduce the harm caused by the disasters. Sri Lanka has set up the Disaster Management Center to cope with natural disasters such as floods and droughts. But we are yet to achieve satisfactory progress with regard to timely management of disasters. This can be done by raising adequate awareness about the ways to cope with disasters and greater co-ordination between the center and state agencies.

The most vulnerable sections in these disasters are the poor. Hence it is necessary to make them prepare for any emergency. Quick and timely response is essential in providing relief and rescue operations to save human lives and minimize damage.

Disaster management has assumed great importance in recent times. To handle any unexpected situation efficiently, we need to be well-equipped with latest technologies. It cannot avoid or stop a disaster, but can lessen its impact to a large extent.

 

Personality development of students

Do you know the meaning of personality? It means developing good qualities and getting rid of bad qualities in our life and good behavior.There are two types of qualities such as good and the bad. The good qualities are honesty, obedience, generosity, helpfulness, kindness, wiseness and ambitious.

There are different types of people in our society. Most of the people had good qualities than bad qualities in the past. But today people have bad qualities than good qualities. Therefore, every person should develop their personality.

As we are well-educated students, we can develop our personality by many ways such as been social, ambitious, punctual and build up confidence in our life. We should know how to face challenges and to be ambitious. We ought to work with many people in out life which means we should be co-operative and social.

If we develop our personality, we can get many advantages such as we can be a good person, a good leader and a good student to the society. Then our qualities are praised by others. Also we can get happiness and success.Therefore, at last I think we should develop our personality from many good ways.

These words should be used as a credo by every woman who believes that they were born for something great and that they have enough talent to achieve their goals. Women should realize that they have the inner strength to overcome obstacles and achieve any goals, even in those situations when they can be viewed as non-powerful, when they are discriminated against, or when they are limited in their resources. There are many examples in the past and present that demonstrate the variety of women’s achievements and support the idea that each woman can accomplish even more than she believes.

History tells us of many famous women who contributed to changing the roles of females in both the past and modern society and who emphasized the paths for future accomplishments. Such as Mother Theresa, Florence Nightingale, Susanthika Jayesinghe, Srimavo Bandaranayeka

Every woman does a lot of work every day in order to support her family. The focus on the family is also characteristic of the women living in the United Arab Emirates. Sri Lanka, India, Africa ..... Nevertheless, women should remember that the role of an achiever or a leader can be associated with almost any mother, wife, and daughter.

The world has changed as well as the role of women in it. Therefore, each woman needs to believe in the idea that she can achieve more through her everyday activities and focus on talents and interests that could be hidden for years because of fears and stereotypes.

 

Saving Electricity

We need electricity at every moment and in every walk of life. Electricity is considered the soul or the life without which the entire world remains dead and dormant. Our health, education, agriculture, engineering and other technical activities all now depend on electricity.

The surgeon in the operation theater, the engineer in the factory, the motor-mechanic in the garage, the officer in the office, the passengers at the railway platform, all are enjoying the service rendered by electricity. Many means of modern transportation depends upon electricity. Trams and electric trains in big cities serve thousands of people every-day. Electricity has given a great boost to modern civilized life.

Generation of electricity costs a huge amount of money and it can be a heavy drain on the economy of the country. Therefore, it essential that we must save electricity as much as possible. Even our small attempts to save electricity will be helpful. At home, we should be very careful regarding the electric apparatus used by us. Fans, lights, air-conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters should be used properly. Television sets should be turned off when we do not need them. We should use lights and bulbs that consume less power. By saving electricity in this way, we can save money while contributing to the development of the country.
